This was my grandfather's driving cap. Pigskin in hand, ready for action. Grandparents all around...circa 1980.
Shuffled out onto the trail this morning. Running hurt--very painful. So I walked and did some meager attempts at sprinting x 15.
Psalm 103 vv 1-5.

Clerk- fantastic photos.
ReplyDeleteIf I owned that cap today, my children would understand the depth, height and breadth of enduring style. What happened to the "driving cap"? It seems that in the good 'ol days there was an entire outfit dedicated to driving. Caps, gloves, shoes.. probably trousers (although I've never had the pleasure of seeing them, or better yet, wearing them). It may be that a couple of guys I know could breathe a bit of the "old life" into today's man. They could create a place to reintroduce to men that it is ok to love, to have there own things, to take pride in being a man, to be celebrate sealing the deal, to enjoy an ice cream (dad's favorite place). In this place men could purchase a hand stitched leather satchel, and talk to other men about mustaches and cars. They could also buy the things that men no longer have. Driving caps, a good pair of boots, a nice drawing pencil, maybe a Waylan Jennings CD. They could pick up a pair of "Timber Beast" braces, the kind that have eyelets designed to couple with an high quality pair of wool trousers ( Glen Plaid, Window Pain Plaid, or "Oversized Herringbone"). I'll take one of each. And a trunk to put it all in. That way Emmett will have something to wonder about while I'm at work.
